The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will take place from 16-20 April 2018 in London and Windsor. Leaders from across the Commonwealth will attend working sessions to discuss shared global challenges, and set the course for future Commonwealth co­operation. Media Accreditation

Registration for accounts on the online media accreditation portal is now closed.

Media Accommodation

Media attending CHOGM 2018 will need to make their own accommodation arrangements and early booking is advised. You may wish to visit the official London and Britain visitors guides at www.visitlondon.com and www.visitbritain.com for information on accommodation.

Media Transport

London is served by five major airports: London City, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton and London Stansted. For more information please see: www.tfl.gov.uk. Media will need to arrange their own transportation between UK point of entry or departure, hotel accommodation or travel to/from the media centre. Transport will however be provided across official venues for accredited media taking part in media moments.

Media Visa Requirements

Media requiring visas are advised to apply in good time through their usual channels. Applications should not be submitted more than three months before the proposed date of travel and we recommend that applications are submitted no later than 15 working days before the intended travel date. Media Accreditation

Media wishing to cover CHOGM 2018 will need to apply for accreditation using https://media.chogm2018.org.uk/media/account/create

Those applying for accreditation will need to provide the following:

  • a scanned copy of the photo page of their passport or national ID card
  • a scanned copy of a national or UN issued press card
  • a letter from their bureau chief/editor or High Commission/MFA confirming their assignment
  • a colour passport style photograph in .jpeg format, 132 x 170 pixels, portrait oriented and under 2 MB

Yes, you can use your media accreditation account to submit accreditation requests on behalf of others. You will need to ensure you have all the required details and documentation for all those you request accreditation for.

Unfortunately, accreditation has now closed but you can follow the summit on our website and social media channels.

Where possible, please upload a letter from your organisation or the company you are working for. If you do not have this, please provide a supporting letter, stating clearly what you would like to cover at CHOGM 2018.

Delegation press officers should accredit as part of their official delegation and not via the media accreditation portal.

Accredited media will have access to the CHOGM 2018 Media Centre. The Media Centre will be a secure facility and only accredited media and vehicles will be admitted inside the secure zone.

Media access to CHOGM 2018 venues will be limited and access to some media opportunities, due to space constraints, will be via small escorted media pools.

Within the Media Centre, there will be a gathering point for accredited media who are part of the small escorted media pools for official CHOGM media opportunities. Media pool schedules will be issued during CHOGM 2018 and will be managed by the Commonwealth Secretariat Communications Team and the CHOGM 2018 Logistics Team. Media pool arrangements will only be facilitated from the Media Centre.

Once you have received confirmation of your accreditation, instructions will be provided to you in due course about where and when to collect your accreditation.

Members of the media that have not accredited will be unable to attend CHOGM 2018 and will not have access to the Media Centre or the opportunity to attend any media moments.

Applications for media accreditation will be subject to a vetting process and only known media will be accredited.

The Commonwealth Secretariat, in close consultation with the host government, is the final authority for all media accreditation for CHOGM 2018.

CHOGM 2018 Programme and Media Opportunities

The week of CHOGM 2018 begins on Monday 16 April with the Commonwealth Forums, and ends on Friday 20 April after the Heads of Government Retreat.

The media centre opens at 12:00 noon on Sunday 15 April. Sufficient time should be factored in for media representatives to go through accreditation and security procedures, and install any equipment.

A full programme of media moments, including size and composition of media pools to cover them will be provided in due course.

Media opportunities will be covered on a pool basis. Information on how to register your interest to be part of a pool for a particular media opportunity will be issued in due course. There will also be a host broadcast and photographer service providing footage for all accredited media to use.

Interviews

Further details about the programme and attending delegates will be shared in due course.

The communications team of the Commonwealth Secretariat will be able to assist with requests to interview the Secretary-General or staff of the Secretariat.

If you wish to interview a delegation member, you should contact the Press Officer at the relevant High Commission to request an interview. The delegations should then liaise with the FCO CHOGM Media Logistics Team if they require a room/space for the interview.

Information on how to access the Media Centre will be issued before the week of CHOGM 2018.

There will be a security regime in place. Accredited media will have to go through standard search procedures to enter the secure zone. We will issue specific guidance on what type of security checks accredited media can expect in due course.

All media will need to access the facility by going through security arches and bag searches. Please allow enough time for this. If you leave the site you will not be able to return without going through the search process.

No. Media are not charged a fee to access the Media Centre. Workspaces with internet and power are free on a first come first served basis. Additional services will be available for a price detailed on a rate card (please see the media/broadcaster info tab).

It will not be possible to park a satellite truck at the Media Centre. All satellite truck parking will be at the broadcast platform locations. Space will be limited and will be bookable via a media services rate card on a first come first served basis (please see the media/broadcaster info tab).

You cannot park a personal vehicle at the media centre. Please use public transport. The closest London Underground station is Green Park and several bus routes serve the surrounding area. The Transport for London website has the latest travel information and a tool to help you plan your journey.

No. We advise that you use public transport.

Accredited media will have access to the Media Centre where there will be a large working area with workspaces with access to power supply, wi-fi and printers. A limited number of workspaces will be supplied with a host broadcaster live feed. All workspaces will be on a first come first served basis. There will be screens around the Media Centre displaying the latest host broadcast feeds from CHOGM or news channels. Further facilities, including media booths will be available at a cost (please see the media/broadcaster info tab).

There will not be any pre-assigned working space. All workspaces will be on a first come first served basis.

Space for interviews will be available in the Media Centre. If you wish to interview an attendee, you should contact the Press Officer at the relevant High Commission to request a delegate interview. The delegations should then liaise with the CHOGM Media Logistics Team if they require a room/space for the interview.

Photographers will have access to standard work spaces

Only accredited media and official delegates will be able to access the Media Centre. Individuals without accreditation will not be permitted.

Commonwealth Forums

The week of CHOGM begins with four Forums, bringing together representatives from the worlds of business, civil society and government. They are: the Commonwealth Business Forum, Youth Forum, People’s Forum, and Women’s Forum.

The Commonwealth Forums will take place at a central London location between 16-18 April 2018.

Yes — you will need CHOGM 2018 media accreditation to cover the Commonwealth Forums. You should accredit through the CHOGM 2018 media accreditation portal rather than as a forum delegate.

Media will have access to the forums through small escorted media pools.

There will not be a media facility at the forum venues however accredited media will be able to use the CHOGM 2018 Media Centre which will be located in the grounds of Marlborough House. Transport will be provided between the forum venues and media centre.

Broadcast Platforms

Stand-up broadcast positions at the QEII Centre and Canada Gate will be available during CHOGM 2018.

Yes. all broadcast platforms will be within the Commonwealth Forums and CHOGM 2018 island sites, and media accreditation will be required to access these sites.

Broadcast Footage and Technical Information

A host broadcaster will be working for the UK Government to supply host broadcast footage of all media opportunities. It will be made available via the BT Tower in London and from the Media Centre. A host broadcast schedule and satellite information will be made available closer to the summit.

No, we will not be offering additional internet speeds for purchase.

The power supply in the UK is 230V. Delegates are advised to bring their own electrical adaptors (UK 3-pin) if required.

Those assigned stand upper positions at Canada Gate will be advised in due course on when equipment can be installed on site.

Accommodation

No, all media will be responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements.

Transport and Visas

It is the responsibility of individuals to make their own flight arrangements, including visas (if applicable). We recommend that you do not book your flights until you have received confirmation that you have been successfully accredited.

If you require a visa to attend CHOGM 2018,applications should not be submitted more than three months before the proposed date of travel. We recommend that applications are submitted no later than 15 working days before the intended travel date. This will enable UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) to consider applications in good time before CHOGM 2018.

Media should refer to the published information on visas to confirm that the route they are applying meets their own specific requirements. For further information please visit: www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration. UKVI offices in the UK and overseas have been advised of CHOGM 2018.

Media will need to arrange their own transportation between UK point of entry or departure, hotel accommodation or travel to/from the media centre.
